APPEARANCES can be deceptive at first sight and that is the case with a little bistro situated in the centre of Edwinstowe.
Whilst on the way to another restaurant last week we were sucked in by Edwinstowe Bistro, a colourful continental-looking bistro, raised off the street and with a pretty exterior dining area.

However, on walking in we discovered a basic-looking licensed cafe with limited menus and alcohol crammed onto the bar.

That said, once sat down and ready to eat, Edwinstowe Bistro does win you over with its well priced selection of home cooked food, ranging from all day breakfasts and light bites to more filling meals, along with a decent wine selection.

I opted for the sweet and sour pork wrap while my partner chose the steak pie, both of which came with side salad and chips.

On arriving the dishes were not the best presented, but once I tucked in I was quite impressed with the simple yet tasty cooking.

At £4.50 the wrap was full of contrasting flavours and as good as you'd get anywhere else – and despite the less than generous salad the chips were lovely.

My partner enjoyed the £4.85 homemade steak which came as a chunky slice, full of succulent beef –– just enough to keep you going. On the day of our visit we were welcomed by a young waiter who showed us to our seats and took the orders.

He was very friendly, as were the staff working in the kitchen, who all greeted us, asked how our meals were and were quick to get any condiments we asked for, before wishing us a nice day on leaving.

Edwinstowe Bistro is not a place that would wow anyone who has come from afar, but for locals it is a nice place to drop in for a cup of tea or coffee or something more substantial without the frills.
