Zack Jenkins (19) spent three months in custody on remand after the latest break-in at the house on Wallace Road.

He unscrewed a window to steal computer equipment, a cycle, a cheque book and other property which sold for £50 to buy beer, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

His mother wrote to him in prison to say she still loved him, the court was told.

The teenager claimed he deliberately broke in because he wanted to be in custody for his own safety after being assaulted by someone a few days earlier.

It was said he had a difficult upbringing, his parents had separated and he suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Judge Dudley Bennett warned Jenkins he would give him 12 months inside if he failed to respond to the sentence of 12 months suspended for two years with supervision.

Jenkins will be tagged and under an 8pm-7am curfew for two months, and has to live where directed by probation initially at an address on Carter Lane.

He also has to take any medical treatment as directed and cannot enter his mother's home except on a visit organised by the probation service.
