A DRUNK Mansfield man who made racist comments towards a Polish resident and rammed a wheelie bin against his door has appeared in court.
Mark Sheffield (35), of Gedling Street, knocked on the complainant's door at around 12.20am on 6th November when he mistook it for his friend's flat.
Mansfield magistrates were told that Sheffield had been drinking and he asked the man –– who has lived in the UK for a year –– if he could use his toilet.
The man refused and Sheffield began to urinate against a wall.
When he had finished he knocked on the door again and lost his temper, telling the man he did not like him.
The complainant closed the door and Sheffield began 'running at the door and kicking it' and shouting racial abuse and threats.
He then grabbed a wheelie bin and repeatedly rammed the man's door before shouting that he did not belong in this country.
Sheffield admitted racially aggravated criminal damage and racially aggravated threatening behaviour last Wednesday and the court was told the damage had cost £240 to repair.
In mitigation, Ros Pursglove said Sheffield had serous back problems which meant he could not work and was struggling financially.
She said: "He is not using this as an excuse, but it does go some way to explain why he had more to drink than he should."
The court was told Sheffield was very drunk and only had a vague recollection of the incident, but deeply regretted his actions.
The case was adjourned for reports to be prepared and Sheffield was released on unconditional bail until 17th December.
