A JOBLESS Shirebrook man caught at the wheel without insurance and a licence has been ordered off the road.
Chesterfield magistrates were told that Lee Brooks was driving a BMW 520 when he was stopped by police on Sookholme Road, Shirebrook.

Prosecutor Michael Law told the court: "A check on the police national computer showed that he had an expired provisional licence.

"He was challenged about his documentation and accepted he had no insurance."

Brooks (37), of Pear Tree Drive, did not attend court on 10th July when he was convicted of driving without insurance on 24th February.

He had pleaded guilty by letter to driving without a licence.

Brooks already had eight penalty points on his licence and a further eight were added –– taking him over the 12-point totting-up limit.

Presiding magistrate David Blackburn banned Brooks from driving for six months and fined him £150, with £35 costs.

Brooks, who did not attend Wednesday's hearing, must also pay a £15 surcharge to a fund for victims of crime.

He was allowed to pay his court bill at a rate of £10 per fortnight.
