- MEMBERS of Warsop Ladies' Probus Club met on Wednesday week at the Parish Centre. President Mrs Meta Hosty welcomed them and Mrs Dorothy Williams read minutes and gave reports on behalf of the vice-president and treasurer. Members discussed a possible visit to Tissington, Derbyshire. Grace was said by Mrs Thelma Sellers and lunch was served by Barn Catering. Speaker Pam Littlewood gave a talk about a book she had written called If Wishes Were Horses. A vote of thanks was given by Mrs Thelma Sellars.
- ON Wednesday week at Bethel Church, Warsop, Pastor Ian Winstanley was speaker at the prayer meeting led by Joy Troop. At New Friends' Luncheon Club on Thursday week meals were provided by Sarah Troop and Jane Warren. Sunday week's morning service was led by Joy Troop and speaker and musician was Pastor Winstanley. At Sunday school Mary Bailey helped children to make a family tree using biblical characters. In the evening Joy Troop led and spoke at the service.
- AT Oaklands Centre, Warsop, yesterday week's charity shop raised £166. Hostesses were Mrs J. Davis and Mrs M. Pike. Helpers were Mesdames J. Malcolm, M. Collier, R. James, B. Stockdale, A. Quinn, I. Hodgson, A. White and A. Hartshorn. On Thursday week helpers at the lunch club were Mesdames B. Stockdale, J. Hodgson, I. Hodgson, J. Broughton, M. Collier, J. Malcolm, A. White, R. James, E. Houtby and M. Freer. The afternoon tea dance raised £57.50 and MC was Mr E. Dane. Hostesses were Mesdames C. Wright, V. Gibbons and S. Niblett. Finance was organised by Mrs V. Gibbons. Card waltz winners were Mr and Mrs Orford.
- WARSOP Wives' Group met last Tuesday week at the Parish Centre. Mrs M. Watson welcomed them and introduced district nurses Roz Smith and Debbie O' Brien, who spoke about their work. Mrs J. Savage organised a raffle won by Mrs K. Beilby. Refreshments were served by Mesdames S. Clarke, P. Herbert and L. Watson. Tickets were distributed to members for the group's band concert on 10th June.
- ABOUT 30 members of Old Warsop Society met on Wednesday week at the Parish Centre. Speaker Mr Ian Morgan gave a talk entitled Tales of the Great North Road -- Kings and Highwaymen. Chairman Mr L. Clarke gave a vote of thanks and refreshments were served by Miss N. Langton and helpers.
- MEMBERS of Saturday Night Dance Club met at Woodside Hall Community Centre, Church Warsop, on Saturday week. Mr D. Salt was MC and finance was organised by Mrs J. Mallett. Refreshments were served by Mr and Mrs T. Pearson, Mrs and Mrs D. Niblett, Mrs J. Woodcock and Messrs G. Pearce, R. Hill and S. Hallett.
- AT Warsop Men's Probus Club's recent meeting at the Parish Centre president Mr Brian Bennett welcomed members. He introduced the speaker Coun John Kerr, of Warsop Parish and Mansfield District councils, who spoke about local politics and the Local Area Agreement. Members were asked to complete a questionnaire giving three things they thought would promote a better future for the town. Twenty-eight members and guests had lunch, after grace said by Mr Eric Simpson. At Wednesday week's meeting speaker Coun Andre Camilleri, of Mansfield District Council, gave a talk called The Need For Change In The Way Parliament And The Government Are Run. Lunch was served to 28 members and guests after grace said by Mr Eric Simpson.
- BELL-RINGERS, Chris Richards, Bryn Richards, Ellie Spencer and Adrian Hardy met at the ringing chamber of Warsop Parish Church tower on Sunday week to ring for the morning service.
- ON Thursday week at Oaklands Centre, Warsop, consultant Sue Redfern welcomed five new members to Slimming World's meeting. Awards went to Jane Callaghan, Judith Case, Tracy Newton, Jayne Potter, Sharon Sanders and Kelly Shelton. Slimmers of the week were Kay Brown and Kelly Shelton.
- WARSOP Cubs met last Tuesday week at the Methodist church and made pirate-style hats and patches. Akela Mr A. Melless was assisted by Mr A. Johnson. From Friday week to Monday week Cubs and Scouts attended a county camp at Walesby Forest Campsite. Activities included climbing and archery.
- WARSOP resident Nathan Millward who is travelling from Sydney, Australia, to London on a motorcycle, has reached Chaing Mai, in Thailand. He plans to visit Nepal, travel along the highest road in India and visit Pakistan. See http://www.thepostman.org.uk/ to follow his progress.
- MEMBERS of Warsop Vale Historical Society met on Thursday week at Vale Hotel, for their annual meeting with buffet.
- WARSOP Scouts met on Wednesday week at the Methodist church and designed and painted flags for a county camp. Later they played football at The Carrs. Mr I. Smith assisted.
- WARSOP and Meden Vale branch of the Royal British Legion is running a comfort box campaign for troops serving in Afghanistan. Mansfield troops have recently been deployed there and the first comfort box is for a Warsop soldier serving out there. Names of any local serving troops can be given to the RBL so boxes can be sent out to them.
- AT Warsop Parish Church on Sunday week celebrant at the early Holy Communion was the Rector, the Rev Kathryn Herrod, and preacher was Miss Pat Brewin. At a later service the rector was assisted by the Curate, the Rev Paul Lawlor, and Miss Brewin preached. The choir sang and children from Powerhouse Group attended the latter part of the service . The evening service was led by Mrs Jane Skidmore. A prayer group was at the home of Mrs Jenny Briggs yesterday week.
- MEMBERS of Church Warsop Tuesday Club met yesterday week at Woodside Hall Community Centre. Hostesses were Mesdames K. Betts, L. Brown, M. Siven, E. Murtagh and B. Rudd. Table games were organised by Mrs M. Siven and Mrs B. Rudd. Numbers game winners were Mrs B. Rudd and Mr S. Lunn. Whist was organised by Mrs P. Lea and winners were Mrs D. Pollard and Mrs N. Hooley and Mrs M. Lunn and Mr S. Lunn.
- WARSOP runner George Price recently received his medal for completing the Lincoln 10Km Run.
- ON Sunday week at Warsop Methodist Church the morning service was led by Mr Eric Staley.
- MEMBERS of Warsop Parish Church's youth group, The G Crew, met at the Parish Centre, on Monday week, for Bible study.
- YESTERDAY week Warsop Hospice Support Group held a fundraising evening at the Tudor Barn. Mrs Mavis Allin gave a flower demonstration.
- VOLUNTEERS at Warsop Age Concern served refreshments at Friendship House in the mornings, from last Monday week to Friday week.
- SENIOR and junior sections of Warsop Boys' Brigade met on Thursday week at the Parish Centre.
- ON Wednesday week Matthew Palmer led a watercolour painting class at Oaklands Centre, Warsop.
- WARSOP Under 14s Youth Club's members met at 2000 Centre, on Thursday week for activities including arts, crafts, pool, games, cooking, climbing towers and socialising.
- AT St Augustine's Church, Sookholme, the Rector, the Rev Kathryn Herrod, celebrated Holy Communion and the preacher was Miss Pat Brewin.
- AT John Fretwell Sports Complex, Sookholme, football training for girls and boys, aged five to seven, took place recently.
- WARSOP Citizens' Advice Centre held drop-in sessions at the Town Hall last Monday week and on Thursday week. There was an appointment service last Tuesday week.
- MARCIA Carr, who works at Meden School, Warsop, is undertaking a project called Beyond the School – The Landscape Project. This lottery-funded venture involves gathering information and images of the town and its surrounding villages to be placed on a website at www.beyondtheschool.org.uk The project will also be exhibited at Harley Gallery, Welbeck. Marcia Carr is seeking help from local people in obtaining images of Church Warsop, Warsop, Meden Vale, Cuckney, Norton or Welbeck, any events such as galas and of the former Alley Cats Jazz Band. CUCKNEY AND HOLBECK
- AT St Mary's Church, Cuckney, Sunday week's morning service was led by Reader Mr Brian Little. Lessons were read by Mrs Sheila Brailsford and Mrs Margaret Rowson.
- WELBECK Estates Brass Band's members met last Monday week and on Thursday week at the band room, Holbeck, for practise.
- AT Harley Gallery, Welbeck, on Sunday week at a workshop called Hope and Elvis, patchwork,appliqué prints, embroidered cloths, a sampler, and making lavender-scented keepsakes and vintage-style toys were demonstrated. Leader was Louise Presley.
MEDEN VALE
- ON Thursday week Ann Thompson welcomed members to a core conditioning exercise class at Meden Vale Church Schoolroom.
- AT Meden Vale Methodist Church, Sunday week's morning service was conducted by Mr Les Shaw.
