ON Wednesday week 10 members of Ollerton Sherwood Foragers met at Walesby Garden Centre and went by car to Laxton. From there Mrs Daphne Bowler, Health Walk Co-ordinator, and Mr George Pashley, of Laxton, led a three-and-a-half mile circular walk. Afterwards they had refreshments at George and Margaret Pashley's garden.
- ON Wednesday week 2nd (Ollerton) Brownies welcomed a new helper to the pack who is to do three months work as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award. Members sorted food packaging into healthy and not-so-healthy categories. Then they had activities on a field including skipping, sack racing and dribbling tennis balls between markers. The meeting was led by Brownie Guider, Claire Watson, and Assistant Brownie Guider, Annie Hennell.
- CONSULTANT Mrs Joanne Faulkner welcomed 51 members including seven new ones to Slimming World's meeting at Lifespring Church, Sherwood Drive, New Ollerton, on Wednesday week. Award winners were Denise Slaney, Lorraine Farr, Julie Hunt and Chris Haining who was also slimmer of the week. Raffle winners were Maisie Munday, Sheila Howard, Helen Widdowson, Cath Bull, Deb Spence and Margaret Hopkinson. Mrs Faulkner welcomed 35 members to yesterday week's meeting at Monkey Mania, Sherwood Energy Village. Pauline Fretwell, Andrea Evans and Ann Dermody won awards and slimmer of the week was Vikki Chester-Walsh. Raffle winners were Marie Penman, Andrea Evans, Julie Green, Irene Russell and Belinda Richardson.
- MRS D. Harrison opened yesterday week's meeting of New Ollerton Friendship Club at Lifespring Church, Sherwood Drive, and welcomed members. Birthday greetings were given to Mrs R. Fullwood and Mrs M. Pettit. Mr A. Waugh, Mrs I. Okon and Mrs E. Waugh donated raffle prizes won by Mesdames B. Smith, E. Waugh and B. Meadows. Mesdames M. Pettit, B. Harrison and A. Whitehouse served refreshments. Tote winner was Mrs M. Miller and other competition winners were Mrs E. Eland and Mrs A. Case. Mr G. Case organised bingo, Mr K. Boundry was caller and Mr R. Broughton checked numbers.
- GIRLS Venture Corps Air Cadets is looking for new members, aged 11 to 20. Activities include flying, camping, water sports, drill, skiing, climbing, sports, crafts and Duke of Edinburgh Award work. - MRS Peggy Shasby led yesterday week's meeting of Ollerton Women's Methodist Network. Guest speaker Mrs Jean Moore, of Edwinstowe, spoke about the Bible character Noah. Mrs Eileen Drury was pianist and Mesdames Christina Lawson and June Hodgkinson were hostesses. The Rev Clare Baxter preached at Sunday week's service and on Wednesday week fellowship members had a prayer meeting.
- SPARE copies of May's edition of Roundabout Community Newspaper are available from Mills' Newsagents and P. J. Print, Forest Road, Booles' Newsagents, Tuxford Road and Whitewater Road; Forest Road and Dukeries Libraries, Dukeries Leisure Centre and Boughton and Walesby Post Offices. The deadline for June's edition is 17th May. A volunteer distributor is wanted to deliver to Holly Rise, New Ollerton. Anyone who can help telephone 01623 836600.
- ON Sunday week the Rev Richard Goodhand conducted morning worship and preached at St Paulinus' Church, New Ollerton. Lesson readers were Andrea and David Ellis.
BOUGHTON
- PAT Evans and May Lindley prepared lunches at the Friendly Club at Boughton Village Hall, on Thursday week. Afterwards members had a games afternoon. Bingo caller was Roy Evans and games winners were Jean Colledge, Pat Evans and Alan Young. George Head played the organ.
- AT St Matthew's Church, Boughton, on Sunday week the Rev Richard Goodhand conducted evensong and preached. Lesson readers were Valerie and Michael Bust.
