Best friends Carry Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes graced our television screens between 1998 and 2004 giving us all an insight into what it is like to be a successful, independent woman in New York – and now they have fin
ally returned to let us know how the story will end.
As I sat in the cinema and heard the theme tune once again apprehension kicked in as I waited to see if the girls could pull it off.
The film, directed by Michael Patrick King, focuses on the group of friends finding their fairytale endings as they face betrayal, temptation, heartbreak and learning to forgive and forget.
Of course the film would not be complete without gorgeous dresses, skyscraper heels and must-have labels – and it does not disappoint with creations from Vera Wang, Dior and Vivienne Westwood all making an appearance and turning the audiences faces green with envy.
And although the girls have aged four years since we last clapped eyes on them they have not changed in the slightest – Carrie a successful writer has her designer closet but is still trying to bag Mr Big, Samantha is as racy as ever but finding it difficult to resist temptation, Miranda juggles her family life with hectic work schedule putting strain on her relationship with Steve and Charlotte is still perfect in every way.
The film will have you laughing out loud and crying into your popcorn as you see the girls at their highest and lowest points, demonstrating that you can't always have it all but you will always have your friends to pick you up and dust you down.
The cast is as fantastic as usual with some old favourites making an appearance, including wedding planner Anthony Marentino, and some new additions, such as Jennifer Hudson as Carrie's assistant Louise.
And as always there is a good dose of eye candy for both men and woman as Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, flaunts her fabulous body strategically covered by home-made sushi – making it hard to believe she is over 50 – while her gorgeous boyfriend Smith, played by Jason Lewis, sets girls' pulses racing.
The long-awaited film is everything a Sex and the City fan could wish for and more – it is the closure we needed on our 10-year love affair with the fabulous foursome and it is a must-see for any female searching for Mr Right.
