VOLUNTEERS at Chad charity Dial help provide essential services to Mansfield's disabled community, but giving up your free time to help others can also have a big impact on your own life.
This is the message volunteer services operations manager Gary Baird is trying to spread as he urges folk from across the county to get involved with the charity.
"Being a volunteer at Dial has many benefits," Gary told Chad. "We offer full training and support to all of our advisers.
"Many disabled people and carers feel isolated and left out when it comes to being involved with others. Our aim is to help improve a person's confidence and opportunities in life."
Dial Mansfield and District has grown to such an extent it now serves the whole of Nottinghamshire, except Nottingham City, so there is a constant pressure to keep volunteer numbers steady.
According to Gary, the charity is especially interested in those who want to be advisors –– but he says there are so many other volunteering opportunities, with something for everyone.
"We cover a wide range of topics such as welfare benefits, disability equipment, holidays, disability discrimination, and community involvement, in fact, just about any area of disability that you can think of," he told Chad.
He said volunteers often tell him about the positive impact giving up their time to help others has had on their lives.
"There are many volunteer quotes for Dial with one in particular coming to mind, 'I do it because I enjoy it and it is my way of giving something back'."
And Gary himself is testament to how rewarding volunteering can really be.
"I myself started as a volunteer at Dial after many years of inactivity and boredom," he said.
"As a result of this volunteering, in time I have been able to secure employment. My own confidence has grown and I am now able to help many others to look at their life options."

Dial would like to confirm Disability Living Allowance, which was highlighted in last week's article, can only be claimed by people under the age of 65. Those over 65 can apply for Attendance Allowance.
