A COMMUNITY group supporting young musicians in Mansfield and Ashfield is celebrating after receiving a £3,200 grant from Nottinghamshire Community Foundation (NCF).
The Salvation Army Mansfield Music Project was set up in 2003 and relies on support from the community and charities to continue its work of helping local children through music.
Workers at the project set it up to give children a thorough grounding in music, teaching them discipline through study, the chance to play together as a band and encouraging a healthy interest.
Those benefiting from the group include five local children under 10 years of age, who have just started to learn to play instruments.
The cash boost from Chad's chosen charity will be used to continue the renovation of their brass band instruments, to purchase new music, uniforms and other essential equipment for the next year.
NCF's fund development manager Zoë Keens told Chad: "We are delighted to be able to award this grant to The Salvation Army Music Project and we support them in the work they are doing in the community.
"Nottinghamshire Community Foundation is all about supporting local people who really do and will make a difference to the future."
Members of the project will be playing festive music by the Harold Larwood statue in Kirkby Precinct on 13th December from 6pm. If the weather is bad it will be held at The Salvation Army Hall, on Morley Street.
Any youngsters interested in taking part can get involved by contacting Capt Melissa Rockey-Clewlow on Mansfield 622087 or Maj Peter Pratt on Mansfield 405868.
