BEHIND the scenes of Central Notts MIND is a strong team of people who give up their spare time to help the charity run effectively, grow and most importantly make a difference to those with mental health difficulties.
There are currently 15 members on the charity's board of trustees, who meet monthly to make decisions which will develop the organisation and ensure it complies with the relevant legal requirements.

The trustees' role is voluntary and involves them making strategic decisions to direct the organisation and its activities.

Almost anybody can become a trustee, with the current board consisting of both service users and community members who all share the same aim –– to improve the lives of those with mental health difficulties.

Board member Liz told Chad: "As a service user I find it interesting to be involved in a different aspect of Central Notts MIND.

"It helps me to understand something of the funding process, the concerns for the future and the many issues which are raised at the monthly board meetings."

And trustee Sue says she joined the board to learn more about mental health issues and also to help put something back into the community.

Said Sue: "I became a trustee of Central Notts MIND because I am a volunteer counsellor, but also because I have a son with long-term mental health issues –– so I have a very strong interest in community mental health."

Service user Robert felt it was important to become a trustee so he could contribute to decisions that would affect individuals similar to himself.

"I like to be involved with Central Notts MIND as when you have a mental health problem it is nice to have someone to talk to about help and any needs you might have," said Robert. "I wanted to be involved in making decisions that were going to be important to me."

Central Notts MIND general manager, Girish Ravat, says the trustees play a very important role in the charity and he is grateful to those who give up their spare time to sit on the board and help others.

Anybody interested in becoming a Central Notts MIND volunteer or trustee or who would like to organise a charity event or make a donation to Central Notts MIND should contact Girish Ravat on Mansfield 658044.
