WITHOUT a minibus, one of Central Notts MIND's most popular services would not be able to function — but with rising petrol costs and high maintenance bills, Chad's charity 2008 needs as much support as possible to keep on the road.
The vehicle is vital for the organisation's family support scheme which allows people who cannot use public transport to access MIND.

Delivery

And after three years of continuous fundraising, bosses at Central Notts Mind recently took delivery of a new minibus to replace its old vehicle, which was costing the charity a large amount of money to maintain.

It was funded through donations made by family support scheme service users, carers, collections at supermarkets as well as floral contributions from families of clients.

However, the length of time needed to gather the cash means the charity has already had to begin raising funds to replace another minibus in two years time.

Said Central Notts MIND's general manger, Girish Ravat: "The minibus is equipped with a wheelchair lift to enable clients with mobility issues to access the service."

"The service provides pick up for clients, who suffer from dementia and alzheimers conditions, from their homes and then takes them to the centres where they are looked after for the day.

"This gives the clients a change of scenery and also to gives their full time carers a chance to have some time to themselves."

  • Anybody interested in becoming a Central Notts MIND volunteer or trustee or who would like to organise a charity event or make a donation to Central Notts MIND should contact Girish Ravat on Mansfield 658044.
