'TO see one person smile a day makes me want to wake up in the morning and come to work –– it's good to know that what I'm doing makes a difference to others.'
These are the words of Central Notts MIND's general manager Girish Ravat, pictured, who is working hard to raise the profile of the charity while helping those with mental health difficulties find comfort and support.

Since taking up the post as general manager in September last year, Girish has already began to make changes and update services that Central Notts MIND offers.

Girish says he aims to make changes to the charity that will benefit users in the future, but will also continue to run services that are working well.

"Before joining MIND I worked for Nottingh-amshire County Council as a physical activity officer helping older people to improve their mobility," says Girish.

"I got a lot of personal satisfaction from that job and met a lot of people with both physical and mental difficulties. It made me realise how much I wanted to help others.

"Since joining Central Notts MIND I have been given the opportunity to review the charity and introduce new ideas.

"Revamping our activity centres is something I feel passionately about because I feel if a place looks welcoming and comfortable more people are likely to step through the door and seek help.

"We will continue to do things that work well and try to involve our users as much as possible to find out what we can do to help them further.

"I really enjoy chatting to our members and we get a lot of great feed back from them."

But to continue to expand and develop the charity Girish says more financial support is needed.

"The funding available is streamlined and you have to fit so many different criteria that money can be difficult to get hold of," he said.

"Around one in four people at some point in their life will suffer from a mental health difficulty so the work we do is incredibly important and we always try to help as many people as possible.

"I hope to continue raising the profile of Central Notts MIND and the work we do to help support those with mental health difficulties."

Anybody interested in becoming a Central Notts MIND volunteer or trustee or who would like to organise a charity event or make a donation to Central Notts MIND should contact Girish Ravat on Mansfield 658044.
