Any donation, no matter how big or small, can make a huge difference to Central Notts MIND, allowing the charity to continue running popular services while developing new ways to help people with mental health difficulties.
And this year, the char
ity has an extra goal to reach –– securing around £30,000 to bring its buildings up to modern requirements.
Central Notts MIND general manager, Girish Ravat, says it can be difficult to secure funding and the charity is sometimes overlooked because of the stigma attached to mental health issues.
"Our main funds are derived from grants and contracts with local statutory services," says Girish. "However, in common with many other voluntary organisations we are trying to combat the difficulties around maintaining adequate funding levels, with special reference to core costs and revenue funding in addition to maintenance and refurbishment of our buildings.
"Although one in four will experience a mental health difficulty in their adult life there is a stigma attached to mental health issues which I think puts some people off giving to the charity.
"But the two of the main mental health difficulties people experience are depression and anxiety – illnesses that a lot of people can relate to.
"Therefore, I would ask people to help us maintain our services and improve our facilities by giving a donation or perhaps holding a fundraising event such as a sponsored walk or a coffee morning.
"We have already began work to our Mansfield activity centre which has made the building a lot more welcoming and comfortable but we need more funds to carry on modernising our buildings and we would be grateful for any level of support."
