A SUTTON lighting firm has won the contract to install new lighting at London's Docklands Light Railway as part of an extension of the transport network.
Abacus Lighting, which is based on Oddicroft Lane, will construct its base-hinged columns on all platforms across the network, which is currently being overhauled in preparation for the 2012 Olympic games.

The Docklands Light Railway serves East London and comprises of 31km of railway and carries 64 million passengers a year.

Sales Director Paul Wilson told Chad: "Our base-hinged columns provide the ideal solution to platform lighting maintenance as they allow the fittings to be quickly and safely lowered to ground level, therefore eliminating any work at height.

"This is especially important for station platforms where access can be restricted and unsafe."

Abacus will also be providing training to operatives of the columns to ensure correct operating procedures are followed.
