A COUNCIL team with sites in Skegby and Edwinstowe is celebrating after being presented with a 'green' award from celebrity wildlife expert David Bellamy.
The Green Hero status was given to staff from County Horticulture and Work Training, an employment scheme for people with disabilities run by Nottinghamshire County Council, at a ceremony in London.
The Green Hero awards are run by the Green Organisation and the local team was recognised for its work in a tree nursery.
Coun Alan Rhodes, cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: "Not only is the nursery good for Nottinghamshire's ecology — it also gives people with disabilities the chance to branch out and learn new skills and feel like they are putting something back into the local community."
The council team grow native trees from seeds at its Skegby site and saplings are planted at a new nursery at Sherwood Pines, where they are nurtured before being sold on.
