THE daughter of a Sutton doctor has been named 'Barrister of the Year' at the Law Society Excellence Awards.
Parosha Chandran (38), daughter of Sutton GP Dr Raj Chandran, picked up the award from BBC broadcaster Kirsty Wark on Thursday at a glittering black tie ceremony in London.

Parosha, who grew up in Mansfield and Ravenshead, went to school in Nottingham before leaving the area aged 18 to study at university in London.

And since graduating, Parosha has specialised in human rights law and practices predominantly in asylum law, immigration law, discrimination law, prison law and civil liberties.

She has acted in precedent-setting human trafficking and immigration cases and works with a number of organisations providing support to victims of sex trafficking, forced labour and torture.

Parosha, who currently works for 1 Pump Court Chambers in London, is also a trustee of the British Institute of Human Rights.

Dr Chandran told Chad: "The whole family went along to the ceremony to watch Parosha collect her award.

"There were around 100 nominees for the award and five short-listed so Parosha did extremely well to beat the competition.

"We had a great time at the ceremony and are very proud of Parosha and her achievements."
