THE disgusted owners of a car sales garage in Kirkby have slammed the mindless vandals who caused more than £50,000 worth of damage to their vehicles.
Sharon Hollingsworth and her husband Andy own Westfield Prestige Cars on Sutton Road and say their premises have been targeted by vandals twice in the last eight weeks.

The fed-up owners say they are living in fear and believe the vandals could strike again after two separate incidents over the summer saw 39 of their cars vandalised.

In the first incident at around 11.45am on 10th July, an individual walked into the garage's forecourt and was caught on CCTV spraying paint stripper fluid across 29 cars.

In the second attack just after 7pm on Saturday, a second offender was seen smearing paint remover on a further 10 cars on display in the forecourt.

The first offender is described as a stocky, well built man and the second man is described as tall and thin.

Reward

Now Sharon and Andy are offering a £5,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

"We are absolutely gutted about this and cannot understand why someone would have a grudge against us," Sharon told Chad.

"The thing that hurts is not knowing who dislikes us so much that they keep on doing these things.

"Although two different people have caused the damage, we think there is one individual behind this and this is who we are after, not those who have actually paint stripped the vehicles.

"But these two people must know something and must be pretty desperate if they are doing someone else's dirty work –– that is why we are offering a financial reward."

Tannoy

Security measures on the premises have also been stepped up to reduce the threat of further attacks.

"We installed a tannoy system warning trespassers after the first incident which has had some affect as the second individual did not come onto the forecourt," Sharon told Chad.

"We also have a night watchman in place, four CCTV cameras and have applied to put up perimeter fencing so they will have realised we have very good security measures."

But Sharon says that the two callous acts of vandalism have had a deep impact on her family as well as their business.

"This has affected our children as well –– my 12-year-old son thinks someone is out to get his dad but these are mindless people who do not see the bigger picture," she said.

"There is also knock-on effect as we have a service bay and valet bay who rent off us and they could be affected too."

  • Anyone with information about the two incidents should contact Hucknall Police Station on 0115 9670999 or Andy Hollingsworth on Mansfield 720202 or 07970126794.
