YOUNGSTERS from across the area enjoyed a trip behind the scenes at Ashfield District Council's Kirkby offices on Thursday –– where they got a glimpse of how the local authority works.
They took part in a mock election –– which saw pupils produce manifestos and use voting slips, ballot boxes and polling booths — and was won by pupil Joel Taylor.

Pupils also worked on a planning consultation project as part of the council's Local Development Framework project where they shared their thoughts on future developments for Ashfield.

The Local Development Framework is based on the prediction that the population in Ashfield will grow from around 115,900 to 131,000 by 2026 with 11,200 new homes and aims to guide growth over the district.
