A KIRKBY community leader has hit out after several trees at Lowmoor Industrial Estate in the town were chopped down on Thursday.
Coun Wendy Harvey, who represents Kirkby East for Ashfield District Council, told Chad the authority should be using the money to clear up the site and plant new trees rather than cutting down existing ones on Byron Avenue.

She said: "It is a waste of tax payer's money to cut the trees down, especially as they were not dead or diseased.

"The council should be using this money for a litter pick or to plant new trees – I think they should admit they have made a mistake."

Ashfield District Council had released a statement in defence of the scheme but have now withdrawn the comment. A new statement is expected soon.
