TRADERS are being warned to be on their guard after a Tibshelf man was tricked into selling a Nintendo Wii to a buyer using forged money.
The man sold his son's console and 11 games to two men for £380 last Wednesday after they responded to a newspaper advertisement in the Chad, before he discovered the £20 bank notes were fake.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are now urging sellers across the district to be vigilant.

The men are both described as white and in their early 20s. The first man is around 6ft tall, with short mousey hair and was well dressed and clean shaven.

The second man is described as slim, also well dressed and with a local accent.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman told Chad: "We have taken the notes away for forensic examination and are continuing our investigations.

"We are not aware of any other incidents, but we would urge people to beware and if they sell something to check that the notes are real."

  • Anyone with any information on the incident should contact Derbyshire Police on 0845 1233333.
