ASHFIELD South has a new top cop with the appointment of Insp Russell Dew as the new local area commander.
The 42-year-old is originally from Melbourne in Australia and came to England in 1985, serving with the Royal Navy for eight years before joining the Metropolitan Police.

Insp Dew transferred to Nottinghamshire Police in 2002, spending five years as a sergeant at St Ann's and then later the Bridewell custody suite.

The father-of-four was promoted in January last year and then took on responsibility for CID investigations across Ashfield –– giving him an opportunity to renew his commitment to reducing domestic violence as Mansfield and Ashfield Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) chairman.

Now he is looking forward to getting to grips with his new role, telling Chad: "I'm keen to get out and about to meet residents and business people and learn what crime or community safety issues are of prime concern.

"I want to ensure we provide the best police service possible and part of that will be taking a hardline approach to criminals operating in the area."
