REVVED-UP. . . caring couple Andy and Theresa Ward get a push in the right direction from Andy's colleagues at King's Mill Hospital as they set off on a 24-hour fundraiser for Leukaemia Research.
Andy's world was turned upside down 12 months ago when he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia after a routine blood test.
He has since become committed to supporting research towards finding a cure for the condition and in last week's fundraiser Andy clocked up £1,000 for Leukaemia Research by driving an old Volkswagen car around as many hospitals as possible in just 24 hours.
Delighted Andy, who has worked at King's Mill for the past 11 years as a medical equipment technician, told Chad: "We set off at 9.30am and managed to get around 35 hospitals, travelling 632 miles in the 24 hours.
"We mainly visited hospitals in the East Midlands due to Bank Holiday traffic and road works slowing us down, but we finished the challenge at 9.15am the following day at Medway Maritime Hospital.
"We are still collecting sponsorship in, but are confident we will have smashed our £1,000 target and would like to thank everyone who supported us."
