TOP tot Lois Ella Binfield has been crowned Chad's 2009 Baby of the Year following a close final held at Mansfield's The Towers on Friday.
Lucky Lois fought off stiff competition from more than 700 other entrants in this year's contest, beating them to the top spot as well as scooping first prize in the 13 to 24-month category.

Proud mum Stacey, of Langwith, said she was over the moon with the result.

"It's amazing, I'm absolutely ecstatic," she said. "I think she's gorgeous, I know every mum thinks that about their baby, but I really think she's beautiful.

"When they said the runner-up I went to my dad and said 'she's won!', but he didn't believe it until they called out her name – I'm still shaking now!"

This year's competition saw more than 15,000 votes being cast, with the nine finalists being chosen by a panel of judges consisting of Jon Bee from Thru the Lens Studios, Lee Greenwood from the Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton, Hayley Watson from Mansfield's Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Susan Mills from Childcare East Midlands and Chad news editor Ashley Booker.

"I'm really happy to have won it, she's a great little girl and I'm very proud," said Stacey.

The overall winner and runner-ups win a share of more than £3,000-worth of prizes, including:

Do the winners also receive a massive phone bill from BT with the number of votes needed to reach the final?
I don't agree with baby competitions as they are pointless. To any parent their child is the best on the planet. It proves nothing.
