A YOUNG Kirkby mother was spared jail after a court was told how she was threatened with violence if she did not sell drugs.
Kirsty Baxter (21), of Cookson Street, was one of many people caught in an undercover police anti-drugs operation in Mansfield last year.

She admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin and three offences of supplying drugs.

Prosecutor Jim Metcalf told Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday: "She said if she didn't do it she would be beaten up."

Judge Dudley Bennett said if Baxter had not met Jason Brentnall she would have not have become involved in supplying drugs.

"He used or threatened to use violence on you," said the judge.

She was vulnerable because she had been subjected to violence in the past by others.

The judge said an independent witness, a woman who had offered Baxter a home, had seen the misery she had been subjected to.

Baxter was very lucky to have a friend like her, said the judge.

He postponed sentencing for six months but warned Baxter, who has a baby only a few weeks old, that if she committed another offence she could be facing three years in prison.
