A KIRKBY man who assaulted a 17-year-old girl has been given an 18-month community order and 150 hours of unpaid work by Mansfield magistrates.
Andrew Morrell (44), of David Street, admitted common assault at an earlier hearing, but denied hitting the girl during an argument on 1st June this year.
He said he had pushed and pulled her, but said his hand had accidentally stuck her head during the struggle.
The girl –– who cannot be named for legal reasons –– suffered minor bleeding from a scratch near to her eye and swelling to her temple and jaw.
But magistrates believed the complainant's version of events — that Morrell had hit her intentionally — and he was sentenced on Thursday.
He was given a community order with an 18-month supervision requirement, unpaid work and was also ordered to pay the girl £50 compensation.
