A KIRKBY man, distantly related to Sutton gangster John Dawes, has admitted heroin dealing and money laundering following one of Nottinghamshire's biggest ever drugs hauls.
Gavin Dawes (30) was arrested on 5th October as part of a huge police investigation, just three months after similar charges against him were dropped.

At the time, his family said he had been hauled before the courts because he was related to the infamous Dawes gang led by drugs kingpin John Dawes - who is currently serving a 24-year prison term for money laundering and conspiracy to supply heroin and amphetamines.

But now, Gavin Dawes also faces a stint behind bars for his criminal activities.

He was arrested following the seizure of 64kg of heroin, 54,000 ecstasy tablets and 5kg of amphetamines worth around £13m in Nottingham and the recovery of £120,000 of cash at two addresses in Mansfield and three in Nottingham.

Dawes, of Warwick Close, had previously entered no plea when he last appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on 8th February, but admitted 15 counts of laundering money, four counts of supplying Class A drugs and two counts of supplying Class B drugs on Friday.

He appeared along with five others, including Brian Peck (30), who admitted supplying Class A and B drugs and possessing stolen money, and Joanne Smalley (31), from Broxtowe in Nottingham, Robert Wheeldon (37), also from Broxtowe, Mohammed Aziz (42), from Leicester, and Liaquat Ali (58), from London, who all deny possessing stolen money. Their trial is due to begin at Nottingham Crown Court on 30th June.

Judge Jonathan Teare told Dawes: "You will be given credit for your early plea and your sentence will follow from the trial of the others."

Dawes will remain in custody until the trial has finished.
