A PAIR of Kirkby garage owners have been given the green light to keep fencing around their business following a spate of vandalism.
Sharon Hollingsworth and her husband Andy own Westfield Prestige Cars, on Sutton Road, and were forced to erect 2m high railings after being targeted by vandals twice during the summer.

During both incidents, paint stripper was sprayed over the cars, forcing the owners to install CCTV and security fencing.

At an Ashfield District Council planning meeting on Thursday, councillors gave them retrospective permission to build the fencing, agreeing that there were special circumstances for the Hollingsworths to erect it while planning permission was being sought.

Coun Anthony Brown said: "The fencing looks good and I think we should go with the officer's recommendations."

And Coun Rachel Madden added: "The visuals of the area are not affected and the residents have not raised any objections."
