AN annual community festival to bring families together will begin in Kirkby on Monday.
The Heaven Scent event gives young people and parents the chance to meet up and play organised sports such as football, rounders and basketball and talk to youth workers and youth organisation representatives about the variety of opportunities for th
em in the area.

It will take place at Morvern Park, between 7-9pm until Saturday, and also offers music, entertainment, face painting, balloon modelling and a barbecue.

Lucie Hutson –– youth minister at Ashwood Church, which is organising the attraction –– told Chad it was important to showcase positive aspects of living in Kirkby.

"This has always been a really successful event and provides an opportunity to show the positive side of young people and their input into the community," she said.

"Over the seven years of running this event we have had contact with over a 1,000 young people and never had any trouble. All of this runs alongside a social action project of litter picking, garden tidying and supporting the local area.

"This is run by the young people for their community because they want to make a difference to the place they live and the people around them."
