EDUCATION bosses in Nottinghamshire are celebrating after pupils performed better than the national average in their Key Stage One tests.
The tests, which are taken by seven year olds across the country, show local youngsters achieved higher results across the board in reading, writing, maths and science, compared to national figures.

Said Coun Joyce Bosnjak, cabinet member for children and young people: "This is good news. The results this year reflect the hard work and commitment made by our schools to improve the education of our seven year olds in Nottinghamshire.

"Every year there is continued improvement by our pupils and results for this year show that all Key Stage One results are above the national standard, which is excellent."

In reading, 84.7 per cent of Nottinghamshire pupils achieved the level two benchmark –– compared to 84 per cent nationally –– while in writing 80.7 per cent made the grade compared to 80 per cent nationally.

In maths, 91.2 per cent of local children gained the level against 90 per cent nationally and in science, 90.7 per cent achieved the grade with the national figure at 89 per cent.
