KIRKBY'S traffic nightmare could finally be brought to an end as part of a series of proposals to breathe new life into the town.
Ashfield District Council chiefs say they will work with partner organisations to improve the traffic flow on Station Street and Urban Road to help attract new businesses to the area.

Kirkby town centre has suffered from major traffic problems for
a number of years, with Station Street and Urban Road often left gridlocked during the rush hour.

Council leaders say they also hope to invest money into improving the look of the town centre and have recently distributed 12,000 consultation questionnaires to residents.

Council leader Coun Jason Zadrozny told Chad: "We want to solve the traffic problems as soon as we can. It cannot keep going on like this because the town centre is being choked.

"Kirkby has been neglected and left to run down for far too long now. This will be a two to three-year project, but it is something we are passionate about and something we really want to improve.

"We need to make Kirkby an attractive place for both shoppers and residents. We are currently engaging with the community to find out what they want and we have had a fantastic response, which goes to show the passion there is for improving Kirkby town centre."

Why was it pedestrianised then?? THAT is THE problem.
Open up Lowmoor road again and all your problems would be solved. You cant though can you.. you'd all look too stupid admitting the pedestrianisation hasn't worked.
