ANNESLEY councillors are concerned that voters at a by-election were misled by political campaigners outside the polling station.
Coun Michelle Thomas says some voters complained that they were asked to give their name and address — which they were not obliged to give because polling cards were not being used at the election.

Said Coun Thomas: "I knew that I did not have to
give my name and address, but there were some people voting for the first time who thought it was part of the procedure."

Newly-elected Coun Rachel Madden said that she would speak to the Liberal Democrats' campaigns committee — who were asking people for their details at the by-election on Thursday — to make sure they knew that people did not have to disclose this information.

She told the meeting: "I will take this back to the committee and remind them."

The council also agreed to write a letter to the Liberal Democrats.

  • Firefighters will be giving a talk at Annesley Youth Club on 17th September about fire safety. Young people and their parents or carers are welcome to attend.

  • Councillors have agreed to submit a grant application to Ashfield District Council to buy a container to store youth club equipment in. The equipment is currently being kept in the parish hall and the new storage container would cost around £1,300.

  • The parish council has objected to plans for a 35-metre radio mast on the former Kodak site in Annesley.

  • Members of the public can now book use of the parish hall via the website at www.annesley-felley.org.
