AN Olympic Games-themed family fun day in Stanton Hill is one the projects set to benefit from National Lottery cash.
There will be two events, organised by Stanton Hill and Healdswood Area Recreation Project (SHARP), staged on consecutive Fridays at the Stanton Hill and Healdswood recreation ground beginning on 15th August.

SHARPE will spend a £2,400 National Lo
ttery's Awards for All grant on the events and up to 600 people are expected to attend, with attractions including Olympics-style races and podiums, crazy golf, a climbing wall, circus skills workshops, a coconut shy and sports events.

Treasurer Margaret Patrick told Chad: "SHARP is a collection of community groups working for children.

"Last year we ran a pilot event that 400 people of different cultures attended and this year we'll be able to be able to do something more ambitious.

"The children have actually asked us to stage more than two days, but it is as many as we can physically do."

The Olympics fun day coincides with the Beijing Olympics later in the year and will feature youngsters taking part in bean bag races, hula hoops and sack and egg and spoon races.

And youngsters will also create a pebble mosaic which could be permanently displayed at the recreation ground.

Meanwhile, other projects in Ashfield to benefit from lottery funding include 1st Kirkby (St Wilfrid's) Guide Company, which will spend a £10,000 award producing a fitness DVD for other guides groups and Ashfield Home Safety Equipment Project, which will spend a £9,874 grant on an accident prevention initiative in the community.
