Angry Glen Moore says he went to his brother Lee's grave at Sutton cemetery on Monday to find vandals had trampled on it and smashed two lanterns — a callous attack which has left their mother heartbroken.

Glen told Chad: "They have made a real mess of the lanterns and it is very disrespectful. It is a good job I got to the grave before my mum did because it is very upsetting for her.

"There was no need for this attack and it has upset us all.
"Something has to be done now because incidents like this are occurring too frequently."

Edd de Coverley, head of neighbourhood services at Ashfield District Council, told Chad the council would look for ways to make cemeteries more secure.

He said: "It is impossible to understand what motivates people to vandalise graves.

"We work hard to provide a pleasant and peaceful environment where people can pay respects to those they have lost.

"We will continue to look for ways to minimise anti-social behaviour and are in the process of recruiting cemetery keepers for our three major cemeteries to work some way towards this."
