Ashfield hosts county Youth Games

THE 10th annual Nottinghamshire Youth Games will be launched with a parade and live music in Ashfield on Saturday.
The sporting event will take place at Ashfield School and involves around 1,000 youngsters aged eight to 16 representing the county's eight districts.

Sports to feature include athletics, judo, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rugby, table tennis, badminton, angling and orienteering.

Events will also take place at Sutton Lawn, Kingsway Park and Sutton Leisure Centre.

Coun Steve Carroll, cabinet member for culture at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "The Nottinghamshire Youth Games is one of the events of the year, an opportunity for the young people of the county to come together to celebrate sport.

"The Youth Games is also a sign of the strength of sports development activity in the county. It is proof of the wonderful work done by local authorities, schools, clubs, governing bodies and volunteers to give our youngsters a brighter sporting future."
