AMBITIOUS Annesley firm Apple Jupp Media is taking on internet giants Google and Yahoo by giving web surfers the chance to win thousands of pounds in cash prizes by using its new search engine.
The Sherwood Business Park company is set to launch web searching website Oparla on Tuesday and computer experts are currently ironing out the final few bugs in the system.
Apple Jupp Media is the brainchild of 29-year-old entrepreneur Daniel Jupp, who first opened shop in 2001.
He said the cash prize system would work like a lottery, with users increasing their chances of winning between £10-£1,000 the more they visit Oparla to search.
"As a company we have had a lot of customers tell us about the positive and negative aspects of using Google advertising," he said. "I decided that we could use those experiences to design our own search engine.
"We are very excited about the launch. It's a real British search engine born and bred in Britain. If people support it we will reward them –– as well as the prize draws I hope to be able to offer users shares in the company in the future."
When users enter their favourite search terms into Oparla, the results will be provided courtesy of Yahoo because of an agreement between the companies –– but Daniel says the website has additional features which make it stand out.
"We are going to have an ebay-style feedback system for websites. A lot of people have been caught out by these scam ticket sellers and the feedback system will help prevent that."
