HISTORIC Annesley Hall is one of 25 conservation sites in Nottinghamshire identified by English Heritage as being at risk of neglect or decay.
The conservation organisation launched its 2009 Heritage at Risk register this week, giving an insight into the county's historic treasures — including buildings, parks and gardens and monuments.

For the survey, English Heritage asked all local a
uthorities to complete a questionnaire for each of its conservation areas and more than 62 per cent responded in Nottinghamshire.

Daniel Selby, from the Kirkby Conservation Trust, said: "It is worrying that Annesley Hall has been listed on the at risk register because it is important that Annesley does not lose any more of its heritage — as has been the case with the headstocks and it is important to preserve it for future generations.

"But the fact that it is on the register means that at least we are aware of the situation and means something can be done about it."

Meanwhile, English Heritage regional director for the East Midlands, Dr Anthony Streeten, added: "People have different perceptions of their surroundings — we are encouraging everyone to cherish the quality of the region's many historic places."
