A NEW state-of-the-art vocational training centre was unveiled at Ashfield School on Friday in the presence of MPs and local business diginitaries.
The multi-million pound centre features nine business units and offers pupils a wide range of vocational training in the construction, vehicle repair, health, design, IT and beauty industries.
The £5.5m facility also gives pupils the chance to work alongside big names such as RAC and Carillion Construction to gain vital hands-on experience.
Martin Davies, deputy headteacher, told Chad the new multi-million centre was a massive boost for the school.
"This provides pupils with a purpose built facility where they can learn from industry experts," he said.
"Pupils now have the perfect opportunity to make that natural progression from education into the workplace.
"This is a massive investment which took us three years to put together. We want to provide the best possible facilities for our pupils to give them the best possible chance."
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony Ashfield MP Geoff Hoon also praised the school for their progress and headteacher Ian Fraser for his efforts.
Said Mr Hoon: "This vocational centre is tremendous for the school and is a great tribute to the hardwork of Ian Fraser.
"He has brought about a serious of changes over the years to bring about positive improvements to Ashfield School to boost facilities and opportunities.
"When I first started to represent Ashfield people were complaining about this school, now parents are rightly anxious that their children get a place at the Ashfield School."
