UP to 100 jobs will be lost at a Somercotes car company in the run up to Christmas, Chad can exclusively reveal.
Around 42 redundancies were made by Guilford Europe Ltd, which is based on Cotes Park Industrial Estate, on 24th November in response to the downturn in the world's economy.

It is understand as many as 50 more workers could be laid off by tomorrow (Friday).

The branch are part of a Europe-wide which sells and manufactures cars, autoparts and aftercare products.

One former worker, who wished to remain anonymous, told Chad he felt gutted and was not confident of getting another job in the industry.

"This is the worst possible timing in the run up to Christmas,"he said. "There were rumours that jobs were going to go but we hoped it would not happen.

"The losses were compulsory so we didn't have much of a choice. I am not optimistic that I will find another job in this industry with the way things are at the moment. It is very upsetting for all concerned."

Chad are currently attempting to get a statement from the company.

This isn't even the tip of the iceberg.. The climate change bill promises an 80 per cent cut in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 (doesn't matter that global warming has stopped since 1999) . Meaning all of our jobs are gonna go bye bye to India or China, or any other country that doesn't recognise the kyoto protocol. Just as they are doing now.

The ball is rolling.
