Oliver Wilson flew in from the United States to take part in the Oliver Wilson dare Charity Golf Day at Holinwell on Monday.
Wilson jetted over to play with Paul Savage and his team from Orion Group who bid £2,100 in an on-line auction for the privilege of having him on their team.

Before the start of his second DARE Golf Day he said: “It’s an exciting day, with great support. We try to raise a bit more money than we did last year, we keep trying to build on each year.”

The winners were the Enterprize team of David Jones, Chris Rose, Matt Curwood and Willie Rhodes.

Before flying out on Tuesday to The KLM Open in Zandvoort, for what could be a defining two weeks in his career, as he still seeks his first win in the professional ranks and a place on the European Ryder Cup team, Wilson reflected on the last couple of months that have seen him miss the cut in two Majors and play in his first World Golf Championship event and looked forward to the next two weeks.

He said: “It’s an exciting few weeks ahead, a bit of a shame I didn’t sew it all up for the Ryder Cup beforehand.

“I’ve had chances but have just not played very well over the last few months. It’s nothing to do with the Ryder Cup, I’ve just struggled with my swing.

“When you get to the major courses and WGC courses every part of your game has to be good, especially in the Majors.

“You have to drive well and unfortunately in this year’s majors, with the exception of the US Open, I’ve driven awfully and you can’t shoot a decent score from the rough.

“My driving is the strong part of my game but this year, well for the past few months, it’s been pretty poor.

“I’ve been working on that and it’s all coming back. It’s not quite where I want it but it’s definitely improving.

“I had a few days off at the beginning of last week and with some good weather in America I’ve been working on my swing for the last three or four days.

“I’m hitting it like I was earlier in the year, not quite as consistent yet, it’s certainly not grooved, but it’s getting better and it’s definitely good enough to play well in the next couple of weeks.

“Everything is back on track and I’m looking forward to a good two weeks. It’s all pretty tight for a Ryder Cup spot. but if I can have a good two weeks it’s mine to take.

“It should be good fun really, it’s what we play for - a bit of extra pressure for the next few weeks.

“I still haven’t won as a pro and that’s obviously the main goal.
