LAST Wednesday we reported that Kirkby Town had won the Chad Sunday League Premier Division title.
That report, based on a league table and results submitted to Chad by the league, turned out to be premature - but only by one day.
For Kirkby did make sure of the title on Thursday evening when they won 5-1 at Skegtby United to claim the crown.
Mark Carter led the way with two, while Kieran Watson, Craig Flinton and Lee Eyre were also on target.
J. Parker netted the consolation goal for United, who finished third. Sutton Central are runners-up.
At the other end of the table PSV Woodhouse could not get out of the bottom two on Sunday as they lost 3-2 at local rivals Woodhouse Ex-Servicemens.
Paul Bingley, Kris Whitsed and Jason Williams scored for the home side, D. Bramley and J. Saviour for PSV.
The race for the Division Two title will not be settled until Sunday, but it turned Forest Town Sunday’s way at the weekend when leaders Maltings lost 2-1 at Sherwood Rangers.
Paul Clamp and David Plant scored for Rangers, D. Cresswell for Maltings.
That result enabled Forest Town Sunday to pull level on points thanks to Lee Bowler’s single strike at Rainworth Robin Hood.
Town are at home to fourth placed Forest Tavern Annesley on Sunday and need only to draw to win the title.
With fourth place still up for grabs, Robin Hood will also play their home game against Sherwood Rangers.
Boothys made sure of third place in Division Four, but they will be grateful to Tristan Burrell for their success. He helped himself to a nap hand as Boothys edged a 6-5 win over North Star.
D. Telford got the other, with K. Drury (2), L. Dicks (2) and M. Green replying for Star.
RESULTS (inc midweek)
