Teversal knew they had to produce something the club had never achieved before to progress in the FA Carlsberg Vase, and that was an away win in this competition.
Before the game the task looked to be a big one after East Midlands Counties East League hosts Bardon Hill Sports had won their two home league games so far along with their last tie in the Vase.

But any concerns the Tevie Boys had were eased as e
arly as the third minute, when a bright start was rewarded by an Andy Woodcock goal, the striker holding off the attention of Scott Telfer before rifling home past Richard Anderson in the home goal.

Teversal were simply passing the Hill boys off the park and the home side needed some resolute and, at times, desperate defending to keep the Tevie Boys at bay.

On 16 minutes, though, the score should have been 2-0 after Michael Lyall and Jamie Goodacre combined to deliver an inch-perfect cross that invited Rob Orton to head home at the far post, but the striker failed to hit the target.

Bardon created their first opening of note in the 29th minute when the industrious Carl Timms found Ben Pollard’s run, but the wide man drilled his effort wide of the target without testing Danny Herring.

The cost of not taking that chance was realised only a minute later when Orton made amends for his earlier miss to score an excellent effort. Orton showed all of his experience to hold off the attentions of Stuart Davies and Richard Burford before rounding the keeper to fire home and put a truer reflection on the game at 2-0.

Lyall was causing the home side problems with his roaming performance so, with half time approaching, it was fitting that the birthday boy would mark his 20th year with a well earned goal.

It came on the stroke of half time when Sam Saunt received a yellow card for his third clumsy challenge on Gary Atkins.
