Askern Villa came to Teversal looking for their first league win of the season and, on this showing, the only question being asked was: "why did it not come sooner?"
They out-played, out-fought and out-classed the Tevie Boys for the whole 90 minutes and the 6-0 score line reflected how easy it was for the Doncaster side.
Playing an excellent mixture of determined football and a neat passing game the visitors s
tretched the home side from left to right and back to front with the industrious Wilkinson running the game from midfield, superbly assisted by Bunn.
Add the performance of Herring in the home goal fortunately being up to the mark, otherwise it could have been more
They went close to opening their account when Evans went close on 11 minutes after Walker exposed the left flank before delivering to the near post with Evans’ effort going marginally wide.
Teversal did create a couple of chances and had they took one of those who knows what might have happened, these chances coming during a period that the home did compete for a short while.
The first effort came from a long punt by Herring in the home goal, which caused a moment of disarray in the Villains’ defence before the visitors cleared the danger.
Chances then swung one way and then the other with the visitors starting the procession of openings when Lyall lost possession, Walker’s speculative effort dropping just wide.
Then Teversal went close after Woodcock found Orton whose effort missed the target.
The cost of that miss was realised when the visitors took the lead a minute later on 24 minutes,
Evans sent the ball into space which found Walker who out-muscled Thacker to have a clear run on goal before slotting home past the stranded Herring.
Herring was on hand to make a number of routine saves, but on 41 minutes the home keeper made an excellent save to deny Walker, but Severn was on hand to fire home to make it 2-0.
If Teversal were going to get back into the game a goal before the break would have been ideal.
So when Orton was gifted a golden chance by Lyall the unmarked striker should have done better but dragged his effort wide of the mark.
If the home side were disappointed in the first half performance, the second half didn’t improve and they will be hoping it was simply a bad day at the office.
