Mansfield Nova's Sam Hynd (16) was in record breaking form yet again at the German Open Disability Championships in Berlin over the weekend – lowering his own world best time in the S8 400m Freestyle for an incredible fourth and fifth time in the last two months.
Sam broke the magical 4.30 barrier in the final, after also beating his own previous world best in the heats.
Sam – who trains at Mansfield's Water Meadows and is a product of Mansfield District Council's Swimming Development programme – has been on an incredible run of form, which sets the Sutton Swimming Club member up perfectly for the forthcoming Paralympics in Beijing.
The record run has included: 31st March 2008 - British Champs & Olympic Trials, Sheffield: 4.32.95 (World Record); 25th April 2008 - DSE Long Course & Paralympic Trials, Sheffield 4.31.62 (World Record); 10th May 2008 - Paralympic World Cup, Manchester: 4.31.33 (World Record); 25th May 2008 - German Open Championships, Berlin (Heats): 4.31.08 (World Record); 25th May 2008 - German Open Championships, Berlin (Final): 4.28.81 (World Record).
"I felt good today," Hynd told www.britishswimming.org.
"I saw someone that I knew could swim 3:28 and I had someone that is the top three in the world to my right and I knew I had to keep up with him to get that record again.
"I aimed for them and I kept a good pace throughout the race and everything was spot on for me.
"It has been a fantastic day."
Sam is supported by Mansfield District Council, Notts County Council and Rainworth Skoda.
The youngster showed no signs of nerves as he took to the blocks for his final and knew he wanted to shave even more time off his world record.
The race proved to be a tough one with all athletes performing well. Hynd pushed hard and at the 300m he turned within the record he set earlier in the day.
He touched home in a time of 4:28.81 to take 3 seconds off his world record and his personal best time. He took 1133 points in the S8 category.
