SUTTON whitewashed a poor and depleted Newark Flowserve outfit at the Fieldings on Saturday to ensure fourth place in the Premier Division - and the 7-0 result gave them an outside hope of overhauling Calverton's superior goal difference to go third.
The game was all over as a contest before half time, with the Snipes already five goals to the good.

But in the heat they eased off the pedal in the second period, and only added two more.

Flowserve arrived without a recognised goalkeeper, and
although stand-in Lee Henderson made some good saves before being replaced in the 80th minute, it is also fair to say that a regular keeper would have saved at least some that he and late substitute Rob Jennings conceded.

James Senior scored twice in three minutes to give the Snipes an early 2-0 lead.

It had been one way traffic down the slope towards Henderson's goal from the start.

Carl Longmore's lunging boot just failed to connect with Shaun Archbold's long free kick from the left in the second minute, and Kyle Ludlow's 30-yard ground shot, bobbling awkwardly on the hard surface, forced Henderson into a diving save two minutes later.

So it was no surprise when Sutton forged ahead in the 11th minute, Senior hitting a low 25-yard drive into the corner to Henderson's left.

Three minutes later Senior cut in from the right to fire into the other corner of the net from the edge of the area.

And with just two more minutes gone it was 3-0, as Danny Love put away Luke Shiels' free kick from the left at the far post.

It might have been four on 24 when, from a corner, Longmore's shot hit team mate Matt Lane and went to safety.

A spell of Newark pressure saw Martin Wilson, Jamie Pennell and Sam Gregory all having shots blocked.

But when play switched back to the other end Henderson saved at the feet of Logmore and Danny O'Donnell in quick succession.

However, the fourth goal did arrive in the 36th minute when Senior's deep cross was knocked back in and Longmore looped a header out of Henderson's reach.

Then a minute into first half stoppage time Henderson was deceived by Shaun Archbold's 40-yard free kick and could only help it into the net.

Joe Sharpe had the chance to pull a goal back just after the hour when he picked up John Styring's miscued clearance but shot wide.

Instead the Snipes made it 6-0 in the 64th minute. Lane laid off Longmore's cross to the impressive Luke Shiels who, with the defence nowhere to be seen, rammed the ball home from 18 yards.

A bizarre incident in the 77th minute saw O'Donnell's season probably ended. Turning sharply he tripped over the referee, fell awkwardly, and had to be carried off.

While O'Donnell was receiving treatment Flowserve replaced Henderson with Jennings, and the substitute keeper was beaten five minutes from time when Shiels dived to head his second goal from substitute Danny Cresswell's centre.

SUTTON: Styring, Love, Archbold, Hadley, Baylis, Shiels, Senior, Ludlow (Davey 52), Longmore (Cresswell 66), Lane, O'Donnell (Wakelin 80).
