SUTTON Town made it three wins out of three to establish themselves as the early Buckingham Insurance Supreme Division leaders on Saturday.
Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Calverton MW preserved the Snipes’ 100 per cent record, although with 10 minutes remaining the three points looked on their way to the home side, who had led through Craig Boulton.

But Daniel O’Donnell’s equaliser gave th
e Snipes the spark they needed, and then Luke Shiels struck to seal Sutton’s victory.

Clipstone Welfare fell to a single Kirk Frost goal in the 51st minute at Hatfield Main.

It was also a second half goal by Pinxton’s Ben Marshall that inflicted a 1-0 defeat on visitors Blidworth Welfare.

But Blidworth’s performance restored a lot of pride after their opening day hammering by Hatfield, and they more than played their part in an entertaining encounter at Wharf Road.

Championship favourites Forest Town, left it late to take the points at Kinsley Boys, winning 3-2, but the Yorkshire side will rue missed chances which cost them a share of the spoils.

Kinsley led 2-1 until six minutes from the end and it was a last minute goal that finally delivered the knock-out blow.

Daniel Burton and Reece Hicks were on target for Kinsley, while James McCann and substitutes Dean Hankey and Craig Jackson struck for Forest Town.

With two matches played, Ollerton Town are still to either score or concede a goal in their debut Supreme Division season, having been held at home by Newark Town.

However both sides had enough efforts to get a goal. Chris Booth saw his thunderous strike saved but his best chance came shortly after when he pounced on a rebound but hit the post of a vacant net.

Ollerton were the only side to show any real effort in the second half, but Richard Walker had his shot saved before Julian Topliss fired over.

With nine goals conceded in their first two matches, early warning alarm bells will be sounding at Southwell City, who lost 5-1 at home to promoted Yorkshire Main.

City’s new manager Mark Nangle, who has repeatedly confirmed his commitment to the development of young players, fielded no fewer than seven players from last season’s youth sides.

The lack of experience, however, was their downfall as the visitors from Yorkshire Main recorded their first win of the new season with a well organised display.

However, the scoreline might have different for City when a very strong penalty claim was turned down by referee Sam Purkiss after only 25 seconds had elapsed when Patrick Ryan appeared to be clearly brought down.

City carried the game to their visitors in the early stages but Nangle had a header cleared off the line.

Main took the lead following a defensive error when Luke Atkinson lobbed the stranded Mike Oxborrow in the City goal on 35 minutes.

Four minutes later they went two up when Gareth Sides’ firm unchallenged header from a corner gave Oxborrow no chance, then on the stroke of half time Sides scored his second with a superb shot from 20 yards which found the top corner.

The other three goals came in the last 10 minutes.
