The Snipes crashed out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle to Midland Alliance Rocester who, with three first half strikes, had the game virtually won by the interval.
Though the hosts improved as the game progressed an upset was never on the cards as Rocester won 4-1.

Rocester made a dream start wih Chris Sleath racing clear down the right and delivering a cross to the back post where the unmarked Liam Sowter
fired past Mark Frost with barely 30 seconds on the clock.

The Snipes' rearguard were struggling to cope with the visitors' pacey frontline and, with just six minutes gone, the lead was doubled - Gary Beardsley finding the bottom corner after a corner was only cleared to the edge of the area.

Frost was then at full stretch to deny Ben Carr a third before the Snipes started to enter the game as an attacking force with Martin Newman finding space down the right flank to deliver several dangerous crosses.

And it was Newman who came closest to reducing the arrears when, following a corner, his drive through a crowd of players flashed just the wrong side of the post.

It was the visitors, though, who carried the greater threat and Carr should have done better when put clear but he delayed his shot and Dean Hadley was able to provide a crucial block.

However the third goal arrived five minutes from the interval as Rocester broke quickly from a Snipes corner and Beardsley rounded the onrushing Frost to fire into the unguarded net.

The Snipes started the second period in determined mood and, with Damian Powell prominent, they started to make inroads against the visitors' defence.

Danny O'Donnell and Luke Shiels twice went close, but on the hour the game was over as a contest when Sleath again broke down the right and his low cross was turned into his own net by Hadley.

Sutton, though, gained some consolation for their efforts when Gareth Davey, Lee Widdowson and Powell linked to open up the visitors' defence with the latter beating Paul Wood with a cool finish.

Both sides created further chances without adding to the score and it was Rocester who ran out worthy winners to progress to the next round.

SUTTON: Frost, Newman (Bradley), Davey, Wakelin, Vardy (Lane), Hadley, Shiels, Ludlow, Widdowson (Creswell), Powell, O'Donnell.

REFEREE: C. Unwin.

ATTENDANCE: 64.

SNIPES' MAN OF THE MATCH: Kyle Ludlow.
