HEAVY snow and freezing temperatures decimated the local football scene at the weekend.
Mansfield Town's game at Wrexham and all the local games fell victim to the weather.

Now high-flying Glapwell FC will be hoping to end the first half of the season on a high when Sheffield FC, who the FA recognise as being the oldest football club
in the world, visit Hall Corner on Boxing Day.

Glapwell, who are unbeaten in their last 12 league games, go into the game knowing a win would take them top of UniBond League Division One South for the first time in their short history if other results go their way.

But fifth-placed Sheffield, who have slumped dramatically since topping the table just a few weeks ago, will have other ideas as they look to get their season back on track after suprising defeats against Belper and Loughborough Dynamo in their last two outings.

The game kicks-off at the earlier-than-usual time of 1pm on Boxing Day and Glapwell will be without striker Lee Gregory, whose three month loan spell from Mansfield Town ended last week.

Gregory will now move on loan to Conference North outfit Harrogate Town until the end of the season.

Also missing from the Glapwell line-up will be midfielder Ashley Kitchen, who is still on the mend from a nasty leg injury sustained late on in the home game against Kidsgrove a week last Saturday.

Meanwhile title-chasing Rainworth will be looking to go back to the top of the NCEL Premier Division when they square off against local rivals Shirebrook Town on Boxing day.

Rudy Funk's men currently trail leaders Bridlington Town on goal difference but are in the form of their lives, having won their last 12 league outings.

Earlier in the season the Wrens defeated Shirebrook 1-0 in a toughly-contested match after a James Whitehead strike sealed all three points.

Fourth-bottom Shirebrook, who have won three of their last five matches, need points for a different reason as they look to continue their climb away from the drop zone after a disasterous start to the season.

In Division One lowly Teversal will also be looking to ease their relegation fears when they travel to league leaders Staveley Miners Welfare in what will be a tricky fixture for the Ashfield side.

Teversal are currently in 13th place in the table, but are looking over their shoulders after a poor run of results which has seen them win just three of their last 10 games.
