Tony Thorpe, long time member of Coxmoor Golf Club and president of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs, died at Queens Medical Centre on Thursday aged 58.
A retired police officer he had been involved with police golf locally and nationally and he was also secretary of the British Golf Collectors’ Society with a special interest in the life and history of Tom Williamson.

David Hamilton the society’s captain said: “Tony was tireless in his attention to the business of our BGCS.

“In spite of an increasing concern about his health, the internet was still busy with his messages and his prompt arrangements for our future meetings.

“Our thoughts are with his family.”

A keen football fan, who played in goal in his younger days, Tony also acted as press officer for South Normanton FC.
