A SPECIAL charity football match that saw Huthwaite FC reform to take on Ernie Moss' All Star XI raised a staggering £1,500 for the special baby care unit at King's Mill Hospital.
Huthwaite took the local football world by storm in the 1980s and reunited for the 50th birthday of former goalkeeper Paul Marsh at Teversal.

Organiser Scott Marsh, son of Paul, hoped to raise a few hundred pounds.

But a superb turnout, raffle including signed prizes donated by Nottingham Forest and Notts County, plus support from local businesses helped raise £1,500.

Scott said: “I hoped the draw of Ernie Moss’ side of ex-pros and Huthwaite re-uniting would cause a stir, but never to this degree.

“It was a massive turnout and everybody dipped in their pockets on what was a really good day. But best of all, it has raised a really big amount for a very worthy cause - more than I could every have imagined when I first started organising the event.

“I would just like to thank Ernie Moss and all his team, everyone with Huthwaite FC and all the businesses that donated money and prizes for the raffle.

“It was a fantastic occasion and maybe we will look at doing something again in the future.”

Mansfield and Chesterfield legend Moss brought a team including former Blackburn star Scott Sellars and Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman and beat Huthwaite 8-1.

Moss said: “It was a great day and everyone was treated superbly. The main thing is we raised plenty of cash for a superb cause and we would love to come back and do it all again.”

Almost 400 people came through the gate at Teversal, bringing in their biggest crowd in two years.

Local companies Pokerdownthepub.com, UK Coal, Carrie Austin Photography, Sign City, Brierley Forest Golf Club, ST Electrical. JP Steel Fabrications, Hot Rods Salon, TTS and MPMI all gave valuable support to the event.
