ASHFIELD U17s triumphed 26-5 at Belper.
With the pack rampant from the off Ashfield made good progress down the field for the opening try after 10 minutes. Great work from prop Chris Eyles made the opening try for Danny Easom to score in the corner.

The second half started as the first
had finished, Ashfield on the attack and again the pack in dominant mood gave Chris Housman a platform to score the second try of the match with a conversion by Adam Dawson.

Belper to their credit embarked on a 40 metre run which saw a try scored in the corner, but Ashfield stormed back with a try from Chris Eyles, converted by Adam Dawson.

The backs were now in full flow seeing good ground being made time and time again. Danny Wilson capped a fine display scoring the final try again converted by Dawson.

Back of the match was Danny Wilson, forward of the match Chris Eyles and man of the match Adam Dawson.

l Ashfield U14s’ first game of the season saw them pitched against biggest rivals Mansfield and, just to add a bit more spice it was in the NLD shield. But it ended with Mansfield winning 19-12.

The sides were locked at 5-5 at the interval. Centre Ken Herring broke through only to be stopped illegally. From the resulting penalty hooker and pack leader Kenny Lang took a quick tap and went through to score Ashfield’s try.

Ashfield started the second half with real determination and after winning a penalty in front of the posts, Lang again took a quick tap, but this time fed second row Tyrell Webster who scorched in under the posts to give skipper Kieran Coupe a simple conversion.

Mansfield scored again virtually from the restart and when their huge No.8 finally broke the shackles of the Ashfield back row they scored again, despite a fantastic covering tackle from Elliott.

Man of the Match was Tom Ellis, Forward of the Match Kenny Lang and Back of the Match Jake Elliott.

l Led out by debut captain Jakob Galer-Rose, Southwell U8s made an impressive start to the season with a 35-5 at local rivals Mellish.

‘Human dodgem’ and man of the match Edward Johnston weighed in with six tries, the other from Harry Goodman.

l Southwell U7s began with a 4-3 (20-15) win against Mellish’s mixed U7s/8s side.

James Norris, Charlie Parkin, Bailey Simmons and Joseph West just before the final whistle, scored the trys.
